Black 6’s First Medical Team

In August 2017, The Black 6 Project’s Needs Assessment and Survey (NAS) Team traveled to the country of the Philippines. This would be the first team deployed by our organization. Led by Black 6’s Co-founder, Joseph Zoleta, the team left out of New York bound for Manila, Philippines. The team consisted of 4 New York City Paramedics, a photographer, and a videographer. Jane Zoleta would capture the moments of the mission with her DSLR Camera and Myther Ganibe would record the experiences of the team and those they would treat using his high-quality video camera.

After arriving in Manila, the team settled in for the night. The next day they would head to the medical district where medical supplies stores covered about 8 square blocks. Supplies for the rest of the trip were purchased here. Most of the equipment and supplies were less expensive here than in the United States. Later that day, an hour drive south led them Laguna, a suburban city where a pharmacy order was placed ahead of time. Antibiotics, antipyretics and pain medication was the majority of the medications on their list.
